Lady Mustangs head to playoffs

The Lady Mustangs are headed to the playoffs on Thursday after massive wins over Mexia and Palestine last week.

The team is now 22-7-1.

Seniors Kayley Smith, Jewel Smith, Sha’Terian Lewis and Lacey Ketchum were honored during the last home game of the season in a tearful tribute.

Jewel Smith went on to pitch seven strikeouts and three hits, leading the Lady Mustangs to a 18-0 win in four innings.

“The game was decided quickly as the Lady Mustangs earned nine runs in the first three innings,” said Coach Miranda Butts. “An RBI double by Kayley Smith, an RBI single by Lacey Ketchum, a two-run double by Emilie Blakley and an RBI single by Kandace Smith in the first inning and a two-run double by Kayley Smith, an error and an RBI single during the second inning supplied the early lead.”

Palestine managed just one hit off Jewel Smith, who allowed no earned runs and walked just one.

Earlier in the week, the Lady Mustangs shut out Palestine, 16-0.

With Jewel Smith on the mound, the Lady Mustangs had 15 hits and no errors.
