Lady Mustangs rally but fall short

Coach Ashley Segler was expecting her Madisonville High softball team to be tested against Fairfield Thursday afternoon at Mustang Ballpark. The Lady Mustangs had some anxious moments, but ultimately fell to the Eagles, 14-3.

“Fairfield always comes to play,” said coach Segler. “We seem to view them as a rival and always go out with a tough ‘go get ‘em’ attitude when playing them.”

Brooke Gatlin, Taylor Jaurez and Jai Serguiff all scored runs in the loss.

“The girls battled until the very end,” Segler said. “We just have to produce runs when we have girls in scoring position and minimize our errors on the field.”

The Lady Mustangs will travel to Mexia Friday. Opening pitch is set for 6 p.m.
