The Madisonville girls’ varsity basketball team is on a roll.
The Lady Mustangs defeated the Crockett Bulldogs last Tuesday on the road, 42-23, and less than a week later turned around and defeated Silsbee at home, 63-32.
Senior Tra’dayja Smith led the team with 22 points, nine rebounds and six steals. Levi Leveston had 12 points and nine rebounds, while Tylesia Roundtree added eight points in the blowout win over Silsbee Monday afternoon. But for Madisonville it’s all about dominating the backboard as the Lady Mustangs outrebounded Sibsbee, 41-10.
“I’m most pleased with our effort right now,” Head Coach Shana Taylor said after their impressive win Monday.
The varsity girls are sitting at 4-0 and are optimistic about what this season holds moving forward.
“We want to remain focused and working hard,” Taylor said. “Hard work – that’s the name of the game. It’s a hard-working group and they are determined to get better each practice and each game. The girls want to make this a remarkable year.”
