Local becomes Eagle Scout

Ethan A. de la Garza, a freshman at Normangee High School, has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in Boy Scouts. The accomplishment represents almost 3 years of adventure, fun, work, and dedication to the Boy Scout program for de la Garza, a member of Troop 191 Madisonville.

During the process of satisfying the requirements for the Eagle rank, Ethan has performed community service, provided service and leadership for his troop, and is currently serving as the Bugler for the troop.

In addition to the traditional outdoor skills learned in Boy Scouts, Ethan has completed the required 21 merit badges to obtain the Eagle rank and has completed another 19 badges including those from nuclear science to pioneering.

Ethan’s Eagle Scout project was to set up a recycling center within the City of Normangee and the Normangee School District. The project coordinated with a 30-yard roll off being placed in the City of Normangee’s yard and he also put 10 blue recycling trashcans on each of the Normangee ISD campuses.

Ethan was formally presented the Eagle Scout award at a Court of Honor ceremony at the American Legion Post 84 in Madisonville on Saturday, Jan. 7, at 5 p.m. with a reception following for those who attended.
