Gail Kay, a fifth-grade teacher at Madisonville Intermediate School, was recently chosen to receive a Texas Retired Teacher Foundation Classroom Assistance Grant in the amount of $500. Laura Ann Cannon, current Madison County Retired School Personnel President, presented the award certificate and a check to Kay at an Intermediate School faculty meeting April 19.
Today’s classroom teachers use a variety of tools to educate children, but many find new technology items out of reach due to lack of sufficient funding. Texas Retired Teacher Foundation’s Classroom Assistance Grants program helps teachers improve the learning environment by giving fifteen $500 to teachers who submit applications from across the state and are then chosen. They may use the funds towards innovative projects, learning platforms, software, and more. Since 2008, the Texas Retired Teachers Foundation has provided $56,000 in teacher grants to active educators all across Texas. The non-profit program is dedicated to improving the lives of both children and teachers in public education.
