Lyon lands job with Hawkins schools

The former North Zulch ISD superintendent recently was named the sole finalist for the same position at the Hawkins school district.

Morris Lyon resigned from North Zulch in late October after six years with the district. North Zulch has since named Doug Devine to helm the schools.

Lyon said at the time of his resignation that he was leaving to spend more time with his family.

The Hawkins ISD website lists him as a Holly Lake Ranch resident who has nine years of experience as a superintendent, in Detroit ISD and North Zulch.

“He has also served as a K-12 principal and an agriculture teacher,” the site states. “Lyon was named Texas Rural Education Association, Superintendent of the Year in 2014. He has experience in creating and implementing high school graduation plans and endorsement tracks leading to CTE certifications. He has been instrumental in the passage of bond elections and has experience working with Chapter 41 districts.

Lyon has led curriculum teams in vertical alignment and improving instruction with multiple strategies including project based learning and instructional technology integration.”

According to its website, Hawkins is a 2A district in Wood County.
