The room was packed with new and smiling faces of educators who have come from all over to join the Madisonville community in 2017, as the Madisonville School Board welcomed members of their new faculty prior to the start of Monday’s monthly school board meeting.
Overall, the names of 31 people were announced as new hires, many of which were in attendance.
Some of the members in attendance stood up and gave a brief profile of themselves to each other and the board before they all posed for a group picture in the front of the meeting room.
“We’re excited to have new members to add to our family here,” said Madisonville CISD Superintendent Keith Smith on his new employees. “Our top priority is always to educate our students at all levels and make sure they’re ready for each next step school or life has to offer. The new faculty members we have will help us build on that mission throughout their careers with us.”
The new employees make up all of the Madisonville CISD schools. Many of them were not in attendance because they hold positions on athletic coaching staffs as well as the faculty and were busy at practice.
A few of the teachers who stood up mentioned that they had been applying to work in the school district for multiple years now before they finally got the call.
In other business, the board:
•approved the TEA 2017-18 application for missed school days waiver;
•approve the 2014-17 district security audit;
•nominated Greg McBee and Dale Hurst to the Madison County Appraisal District Board of Directors; and
•approved the annual review of local board investment policy.
The Madisonville CISD school board meets on the second Monday of each month unless they call a special session. The next board meeting will take place on Oct. 9.
