Mary Jane House Mizwa, born in Nacogdoches on Oct. 16, 1936, passed away peacefully on Dec. 29, 2015, after a long, courageous battle with ovarian cancer. As a daughter of the Rev. Garnet House and Johnnie Rhae Simons House, Mary Jane lived in many parsonages in and around south and east Texas. Moving every four years, she learned how to make new friends fast, a skill which identified her. She graduated from Brazosport High School and attended Lon Morris College and The University of Texas. She became editor of Western Outfitter Magazine, vice president of circulation for Southwest Art Magazine, circulation director for Golfer Magazine, circulation director for Spin to Win Rodeo Magazine, Boulder, Colo., and owner of Antique Panache in Houston with business partner Behrooz “Allen” Alamdari. Upon “retiring,” she moved to her family roots in Leona, where she became co-owner of Pecan Grove Café with brother Dr. Jerry House, and was the greeter/cashier of the Leona General Store and Steakhouse.
Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. Garnet and Johnnie Rhae Simons House; brothers Garnet Reed House Jr., Billy John House and James Arthur House; and sister Judy House Lumpkin Moran. She is survived by her husband of 50-plus years, Tad S. Mizwa; son John T. Mizwa and son Michael B. Mizwa and wife, Mary Johnston Mizwa, daughter Michelle Mizwa Eutsler and husband, Robert W. Eutsler, and son Stephen R. Mizwa and wife Delia Escalante Mizwa, all of Houston. Also surviving are her sister Martha Ann House Lehman and husband, David Lehman, of Bryan, her brother Dr. Jerry F. House Sr. and wife Cynthia Oualline House of Leona, and her sister-in-law Karen House Morrison and husband, Al Morrison, of Katy, together with grandchildren Rob B.
