MCISD AD to showcase changes

Madisonville CISD Athletic Director Rusty Nail is planning to announce changes to the athletic program — specifically the football team — during an open house at the MHS competition gym at 7 p.m. Monday, March 28.

“The new AD, who led the Mart Panthers to state championships in 2006 and 2010, was hired in December following a dismal Madisonville football season in which the Mustangs ended up 1-9.

The March 28 open house will be an opportunity for athletes and their parents to meet Nail’s new hires, including Brady Conger and Russell Urbantke. Both coaches previously worked with Nail in the Mart athletic program.

Conger most recently served at Smithson Valley and will be Madisonville’s defensive coordinator, district-wide strength coach and first assistant athletic director.

Urbantke, who most recently worked for Plano West High School, will serve as offensive coordinator for MHS.

“These are guys that have worked with me before,” Nail said of Conger and Urbantke during an interview last month. “I have confidence in what they do, and I know what to expect.”

Nail, who will serve as the football team’s head coach, said the open house is an opportunity to dialogue with the community.

“The purpose will be to introduce Brady and Russell to the community as well as discuss the changes that are taking place within the athletic programs,” he said.
