MCISD Police seek joyriders

Little damage was done to the Madisonville High School football field during an early Monday morning joyride, but officials say it may have been thwarted by pedestrians who were walking the track.

Around 4:30 a.m. Monday, “someone drove through the gate onto the south end of the football field and drove their vehicle across the track,” according to the Madisonville CISD Police Department. “They also almost ran over two people who were walking the track.”

Athletic Director Rusty Nail said the damage to the field was minimal – just tire tracks.

“It’s concerning that people were chased off the track,” he said.

MCISD Police are looking for a dark (possibly blue or dark grey) early-model Ford SUV. At press time, no suspects had been identified and school police said the incident was “pretty much a first.”

Superintendent Keith Smith was in meetings all day Tuesday and could not be reached for comment.
