There will be a public meeting on Feb. 5 from 5-9 p.m. at the Truman Kimbro center in Madisonville to discuss the draft environmental impact study for the high-speed rail.
Please make sure to attend this meeting and get your neighbors there too. Find out if your property is directly impacted or within two miles on either side. Should the company be granted the authority of eminent domain, condemnation for building materials can be up to two miles from the route?
Come to the meeting prepared to give written or oral public comments about how this project will negatively impact your property and/or why this project and the Draft Environmental Impact Statement is flawed.
Information about Public Hearings from Federal Railroad Administration: Comments may also be provided orally or in writing at the public hearings scheduled on Jan. 29, 30, 31 and Feb. 5 and 6 in 10 counties. Before the public hearing presentation begins, an open house will be held to allow for comments, questions and review of project exhibits. Federal Rail Authority and Texas Central staff will be available to answer questions at that time.
The public hearing presentation will begin at 6 pm, followed by a public comment period. Hearings in Harris and Grimes counties will start at 6 p.m. with a hearing presentation at 7 p.m.

•Congratulations to Iola ISD for receiving The Perkins Reserve Grant. Iola ISD submitted an application for this new competitive grant opportunity from TEA and we were selected. They will be using the $73,800 to update the welding program with new equipment and help support the expansion of the technical dual credit partnership with Blinn College.
Junior varsity and varsity boys’ and girls’ basketball will be facing North Zulch on Friday, Jan. 26, with games beginning at 4 p.m.
