Funeral services for Melvin Haws, 68, of Midway, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in North Zulch. Pastor of the church, Randall Smith, will officiate the service. Interment will be in the Cotton Gin Cemetery near Teague in Freestone County. A brief visitation will take place the day of the service at the church from 9 a.m. until service time.
Melvin Frank Haws Jr. was born on Feb. 19, 1949, in Humble, to Melvin Frank Sr. and Helen (Terrell) Haws. He grew up in Humble and served his country in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam. Melvin worked as machinist for Lawndale Chemical in Pasadena. Following his retirement, he moved to Midway where he enjoyed working on his land and repairing and remodeling things. Additionally, Melvin enjoyed hunting, fishing and keeping his cows and horses. Melvin passed away on Dec. 10, 2017, in Bryan. He was preceded in death by both of his parents.
Surviving family includes son, Trey Haws (Jamie) of Midway; brother, Keith Haws of Riverside; sister, Lisa Boggs of Humble; and grandchildren, Courtnee and C.J. Wallace.
Pallbearers will be Fred McGinnis, James McBride, Rodney “Buzz” Browning, Eddie “Cowboy” Cowen, Keith Haws and Curtis Haws.
