Midway VFD holds annual dinner

The Midway Volunteer Fire Department held their 27th Annual “Po Boy” Steak dinner and dance on Saturday night and welcomed sponsors and locals to enjoy the fun.

“This is a really special community,” said Madison County Judge and former Midway Mayor Tony Leago, who spoke to the crowd before the award presentations. “What makes it special are people like this. Where would we be without the services of this fire department? Do not take anything for granted, because these people work hard and I know they appreciate your support. On behalf of them, I just want to say thank you. We love them to death and we love this community to death.”

Awards were presented to all of the sponsors who have supported the Midway VFD and those who helped put on the dinner and dance by Chief Edwin Faw, Assistant Chief Billy Blow and Captain Lance Ferguson.

Awards within the department itself were also presented. The Midway VFD’s Fireman of the Year Award was presented to Carolyn Blow, who accepted the award from her husband, Billy Blow, in a special moment.

The Midway VFD’s Honorary Lifetime Member Award was presented to Mary Barrett. Her name will be added to an exclusive plaque that hangs in the department.

Also recognized with a plaque was Midway VFD Treasurer Bunny Unterreiner for her five years of service. The department recognizes their own at the annual dinner every five years they have served.

The Al White Band put on quite a show before and after the award presentations and were a big hit with locals throughout the evening.

The sponsors who helped make the steak dinner possible were B&G W Holmes, Madisonville Meteor, City of Midway, Ace Bail Bonds, Stevenson Beer Distributing, R&M Compression, Carter Enterprises, Frontier Pest Control, Best Western Executive Inns, Doug’s Wrecker Services, Midway Tire, Farris Insurance Company, Triple B Plumbing, TDCJ-J-ID Ferguson Unit, Samuel & Samuel Cattle Company, Hardy Law Firm PC, Wright Lee Land Services, James & Pam Walls, Drake’s Service Center, Los Ranchos Mexican Restaurant, Fraley’s Food Store, A+ Credit Repair & Taxes, Midway Mini Storage, ETB Oil Company, Sunbelt Rentals and Farm Bureau Insurance.
