Mountain Moving 101

Posted

Hello everyone, I hope you are all doing well.

The more I speak with people now days, I find that there are many of them facing spiritual, as well as physical mountains.  Sometimes those mountains can seem un-movable and they can cause us to retreat into depression, anger, and frustration or cause us to quit living life all together. It’s in those unpredictable moments, that we have two choices; we can choose to give in, or to fight. Let me share some scripture and thoughts today on how to stand and fight.

Mark 11:20-24 says, “Early in the morning, as they were passing by, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots up.  Then Peter remembered and said to Him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree that you cursed is withered.”  Jesus replied to them, “Have faith in God.  I assure you: If anyone says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him.  Therefore I tell you, all the things you pray and ask for—believe that you have received them, and you will have them”.

There are three very important things mentioned in the above scripture. The first of which is, have faith in God. Everything we do as believers starts with us believing in the one who created us and sent his son to die for us. Hebrews 11:1 says,  “Now, faith is the assurance of things hoped for; the conviction of things not seen.” In other words, confidence in the existence of our heavenly home, and a firm belief in the unseen God.  It’s easy to believe in what you can see, but true faith is shown when you believe without seeing. We must start moving our mountains by having faith in God.

The second is having no doubt. When you pray for something, you should never doubt that God is more than capable of taking care of whatever the need is. A prayer with doubt is really no prayer at all.  God wants you to trust him and believe there is nothing impossible, if he is the one doing it. You can’t end prayers by saying, “I hope you are able to do this.”  You need to pray with power. Jesus tells us in scripture, that if we ask anything in his name it shall be given to us. I know you’re thinking back to a time you prayed for something to happen and it didn’t turn out the way you wanted.  The one thing you can’t pray, is for God to go against his will. We must submit to his authority and trust in his plan. However, in most cases we don’t know what he is planning, so we must pray with conviction and expectation. So, pray knowing that God is able, and never doubt.

The third is, believing before receiving. It tells us to believe that we will get what we ask for. That means, we must believe it’s coming before it gets here. I am not a name it and claim it preacher, but I do believe that God is listening and is able to provide anything we need.  God wants us to have so much faith in him, that there is absolutely no doubt in our minds that what we have asked for, he will give.  When we believe before seeing the result, we are letting him know that we trust in him fully. We drive cars every day.  During the act of driving those cars we are believing before receiving. You believe that when you push the accelerator, the vehicle will go. You believe when you push the brake the vehicle will stop.  You believe that the seatbelt you have buckled around you will restrain you in the event of an accident.  So, do you trust God as much as you trust your car?

There are many mountains out there. Depression, relationship problems, finances, sickness, jobs, friendships gone wrong, and many more.  God is sitting patiently in Heaven longing for you to call out to him and trust him to move them.  None of us are able to push these mountains out of our way, but God is standing by with a power greater than anything man can produce.

The next time you face that mountain, have faith in God, do not doubt, and believe what you ask for will happen.

Stay strong in the Lord, and if you haven’t already, call out to the name of Jesus Christ and ask him to come in to your life and be your savior. It’s only then, you will know his true power.

God bless,

Pastor Wade Phillips
