Musicians fare well at Regional

GROESBECK — Twenty Junior High band members competed at the Region level on Friday in Groesbeck, and all of placed in the top half in competition.

There were 800 Junior High students who auditioned for the region band, and 150 were selected, five of which were Madisonville students

There were five Junior High students qualify to perform with the All-Region Honor band on Jan. 20:

•Steven Edwards placed first out of 10 on tenor saxophone and first baritone saxophone out of five.

•Logan Fraley placed seventh out of 55 on Trombone

•Nathan Fleck placed 15th out of 60 on Percussion

•Jackson Kelly placed 17th out 81 on Trumpet

•Trevor Thompson placed 11th out of 60 on percussion

The High School band competed as well. There were 600 High School students who were auditioning for 150 spots; Madisonville fielded nine performers and all placed in the top third.

The following six people will get to perform with the All-Region Honor Band on Jan. 20, and 4 of them will also be competing at Area on Jan. 13:

•Eddy De La Trinidad placed 7th out of 48 Altos, and will perform in the Concert Band for All-Region Band.

•Ashlynn Johnson placed 7th out of 50 trombones, and will perform in the Symphonic Band for All-Region and qualified for Area Competition

•Julio Lopez placed 18th out of 110 Clarinets, and will perform in the Concert Band for All-Region and qualified for Area Competition

•Jonathan Palomino placed 4th out of 85 Trumpets, and will perform in the Symphonic band for All-Region and qualified for Area Competition

•Cody Pierson placed 13th out of 35 tubas, and will perform in the Concert Band for All-Region Band.

•Daniel Saldana placed 2nd out of 35 tubas, and will perform in the Symphonic Band for All-Region and qualified for Area Competition
