The Mustang boys’ golf team took home the District 18-4A Championship, played Monday and Tuesday at Tri-County Golf Course in Teague.
The Mustangs fired a Team Total 326 on Monday and 313 in the second round Tuesday for a two-day total 639. The Mustangs now advance to The Region 3 Tournament, set for Wednesday and Thursday at Raven Nest Golf Club in Huntsville. The top three teams at regionals will advance to the state tournament on April 25-26.
Sophomore Sam Bennett won the individual honors firing 67-62 for a two-day total of 129 (15 under par). Junior Trae Bennett finished second with a 88-81 (169), and sophomore Bryce Bennett shot 82-88 (170), taking third place. Sophomore Ben Phillips’ 89-82 (171) earned him fourth place. Junior Zack Kelly finished 10th.
Fairfield High School placed second and will also advance to Huntsville.
The Mustangs will be seeking to advance to the state tournament in Austin for the second consecutive year, said Coach Jerry Hopkins.
