Mustang soccer loses two, ties one

The Mustang soccer team is still trying to find its stride during the high school’s first-ever competitive season.

The boys tied a game and lost two during the Brenham tournament over the weekend. Madisonville placed eighth out of 18 teams in the 4A varsity tournament. Royal High School took first place.

On Saturday vs. Stafford, the Mustangs tied 3-3.

“We were losing 3-1, but the boys managed to come back and tie the game,” said Head Coach Baltazar Reyes. “I’m very proud of how the boys came back and tied it.”

David Parras scored two goals on penalty kicks, and Luis Aceves scored with an assist from Diego Guevara.

The boys took a big 8-1 loss to Royal on Friday in which the only goal was scored by David Parras on a penalty kick.

The varsity team racked up its first win vs. Brenham junior varsity on Jan. 14. Josue Hernandez scored four goals, and Noe Rodgriguez, David Parras and Luis Aceves each scored. Assists came from Parras, Mauricio Aceves, Alan Torres, Christian Quiroz and Eli Quiroz.

The Mustangs dropped a match to Bryan earlier in the week, 4-2, with goals from David Parras and Luis Aceves. Luis Aceves and Mauricio Aceves each had assists.

Coach Reyes noted that goals were scored by Jose Nevares on a penalty kick and Oscar Silva with an assist from Nevares.

The Mustangs hosted Bryan on Tuesday and will play in the Huntsville tournament this weekend.

Lady Mustangs

The girls’ soccer team lost 7-0 on Jan. 12 to Huntsville.

“Our legs got heavy in the second half,” said Head Coach Lauren Lindsey. “We had two break-aways but couldn’t seal the deal.”

Coach Lindsey noted that Jai Serguiff had 17 blocked shots.

“Ashley Surber played well also,” Lindsey said.

The Lady Mustangs host Bryan on Friday starting at 5:30 p.m.
