HUNTSVILLE — The Madisonville boys’ soccer team is still working to hit its stride in its first year of competitive play but managed to snag a couple of victories on Friday in the Huntsville tournament.
The Mustangs beat Montgomery, 2-1.
Head Coach Baltazar Reyes said Luis Aceves scored with an assist from David Parras, and the second point was scored by Parras with an assist from Diego Guevara.
The boys also got a 3-2 victory on Friday vs. Magnolia West. Goals were scored by Jesus Zamudio, Josue Hernandez with an assist from Victor Robles and David Parras on a penalty kick.
Prior to the pair of wins, the Mustang team fell to Willis, 4-1, as tournament play kicked off on Thursday. Luis Aceves scored the only goal, with an assist from Mauricio Aceves.
Earlier in the week, the boys tied Bryan, 3-3, on Jan. 19.
Reyes said goals were scored by Dixon Veliz, David Parras on a penalty kick and Luis Aceves with an assist from Veliz.
The JV team tied Bryan at 0.
“The team has been improving in many aspects,” Reyes said. “They are starting to feel more comfortable on the field and are reading the game better.”
The Mustangs faced Navasota on Tuesday and will play in the Brenham tournament this weekend.
The Lady Mustangs came up short vs. Bryan on Friday, losing 2-0 at home.
The players fought through the cold temperatures and held their own. Bryan scored two goals in the last five minutes of the game on a corner kick and a breakaway.
“Diana Olivares and Elvia Reyes played well on defense,” said Head Coach Lauren Lindsey. “Jai [Serguiff] did a great job keeping them to two goals.”
The Lady Mustangs take on Bellville on Friday beginning at 5 p.m.
