Mustangs end season with losses


The Mustang baseball season came to an end Friday after a pair of tough losses to the Hudson Hornets.

Madisonville dropped its first playoff game, 7-0, despite having eight hits. Kasey Williamson pitched most of the game and had three strikeouts, while Ben Phillips and Kyle Poe led in hitting.

The Mustangs came out swinging in Friday’s home game and took an early lead in the second inning. But the Hornets fought back in the top of the seventh and took the game, 4-2.

Kyle Poe pitched six of the seven innings and had four strikeouts. He was relieved by Zach Poe in the final inning. Thomas Hudson had two RBI.

Head Coach Justin Grimes said he was pleased with the team’s effort this year.

“I am very proud of the boys and all of their accomplishments,” Grimes said. “We had back-to-back district championships and were bi-district champs.”

Kyle Poe was named District MVP and Academic All-District. Darren Blakley received Offensive MVP and Academic All-District honors. Kasey Williamson was District Pitcher of the Year and Academic All-District. Ben Phillips was tapped as Newcomer of the Year and Academic All-District.

Alan Jaramillo (outfielder), Zach Poe (third baseman), Thomas Hudson (shortstop) and Robert Culbreth (catcher) were named to first team All-District. Poe, Hudson and Culbreth also received Academic All-District honors.

First baseman Sam Parrack and pitcher Bryce Bennett received second team honors and were named to the Academic All-District team.
