Mustangs fall in Homecoming game

The Rusk Eagles ran over the Mustang football team during Friday’s homecoming game, bringing the Madisonville record to 1-5.

The team fell in its fifth consecutive loss, 35-24. The Mustangs have a bye week on Friday and host Shepherd at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 14.

“I thought the kids played their hearts out,” Head Coach Rusty Nail said Sunday. “We gave up too many big plays on defense and did not cash in enough on some good offensive drives. When you snap the ball 92 times, you should have more than 24 points on the board.”

Nail added that the Mustangs will be working hard during practice to prepare for the next game.

“Shepherd is on a roll and is a very good football team,” Nail said. “I’m glad we have two weeks to prepare and get healthy.
