The Madisonville Mustang volleyball team dropped a home contest in three sets to Caldwell on Friday night.
The team now has three games remaining before they take on their district schedule on Sept. 22.
“I think the biggest thing we need moving forward is a sense of urgency,” said Madisonville head volleyball coach Raegan Shelton after the loss. “We need to kick it into another gear when we get behind in games and find quick solutions to solve our problems.”
The loss puts the overall Mustang record for the season at 7-18. They dropped the opening match 25-10, the second 25-13 and 25-14 in the third. Freshman Sidnie Smith led Madisonville with 12 digs and Raegan Olivera recorded 8 assists.
“I did notice different girls step up into a leadership position by being more vocal,” said Shelton. “I’m really hoping we start to bring it together in practice. I see a lot of good things from them, but we need to be more consistent.”
The Mustangs hosted Waco Reicher last night and will welcome Lufkin to Madisonville on Friday evening. They will then conclude their non-league schedule with a road matchup against Navasota on Sep. 19.
“We’re seeing way too many errors on the court and we’re working on minimizing them in practice,” said Shelton. “Hopefully our hard work will show up during our upcoming matchups.”
The Madisonville and Lufkin freshmen and JV squads will faceoff on Friday at 5 p.m. and the Varsity game will start at 6. This will be the final home game for the Mustangs until they host district opponent Athens on Oct. 10.
