The Madisonville Mustangs traveled to Waller Thursday, Feb. 9 to compete in the Waller Powerlifting Invitational. The Mustangs finished the competition with seven lifters medaling.
“Madisonville has been competing in Waller for years and the level of competition always raises the bar for our athletes to compete at a high level,” said Head Coach Lu Olvera. “I thought the guys attacked the weights and gained confidence with every squat, bench and deadlift.”
Bryce Roundtree placed fourth, lifting 550 pounds in the 114-pound weight class. Tye Conger placed third, lifting 535 pounds in the 123-pound weight class. Colby Sheppard finished fourth, lifting 795 pounds in the 132-pound weight class. Jonathan Boone placed fifth, lifting 775 pounds in the 132-pound weight class. Nathan Chappell placed fourth, lifting 835 pounds in the 148-pound weight class. Asa Surface placed fifth, lifting 795 pounds in the 148-pound weight class and Joey Mclver also finished fifth, lifting 1,265 pounds in the super heavy weight class.
“There’s no doubt that our boys left everything they had on the platform for their nine lifts throughout the evening,” Olvera said. “Each young man increased their total weight from their previous competition.”
The Mustangs will return to competition Saturday on the road in Normangee.
