It’s been more than a month since the Madisonville girls’ basketball team lost a game and that streak continued Tuesday, Jan. 10, as Madisonville defeated Palestine on the road.
The Lady Mustangs jumped out to a big first-quarter lead and survived early foul trouble to two starters before pulling away for a 50-32 victory.
Tra’Dayja Smith led all scorers with 12 points. Shakayla Burns had 10 points and seven rebounds and Tylesia Roundtree, Zanavia Lewis and Lexi Leveston added six points each.
“Overall, team-wise, it was one of the best games we’ve played,” said Head Coach Shana Taylor. “I think we really took it as our goal to set the tone on defense, really pressing them hard and getting after it on defense so that our offense could get elevated.”
Madisonville outscored Palestine, 19-9, in the third quarter putting the game out of reach.
“We’re starting to hit our stride just at the right time,” Taylor said.
The Lady Mustangs (19-3) will look to extend their winning streak Friday on the road in Athens. Tipoff is set for 6:15 p.m.
