The Madisonville men’s soccer team remained undefeated in district with decisive wins over Crockett and Navasota.
“It’s the team’s mentality along with their effort that keeps us so consistent,” said Madisonville soccer coach Baltazar Reyes. “The boys want to win and they give it their all each game. They all have each other’s back, and that’s what makes a team.”
Entering Tuesday’s senior night matchup against Cleveland and Madisonville, the Mustangs were 6-0 in district and outscored opponents 39-1. They’ve recorded 5 district shutouts and have posted 10 goals in a game twice.
In the team’s third win of the season over Crockett on Friday, David Parras shined with 4 goals in the 6-0 decision. He was assisted by Dixon Veliz, Guillermo Rosas and twice by Mauricio Aceves.
Parras also logged two assists of his own on goals scored by Jose Ibarra and Hector Rodriguez.
On Monday, Madisonville hosted Navasota for makeup from last week’s cancelation. The Mustangs won the game 5-0 with goals from Diego Guevera, Daniel Hernandez, Bayron Veliz and Dixon Veliz. Guevera also recorded two assists.
“We take it one game at a time and just try to do our best,” said Reyes. “This is soccer and you never know what might come your way. It’s all about setting a goal in your mind and working your hardest to achieve it throughout the season.”
Last night, Mustang seniors Guillermo Rosas, Alex Reyes, Arcenio Melo, Daniel Hernandez, Hector Rodriguez, Jared Solis, Jose Ibarra and Josue Hernandez were honored in front of the home crowd for senior night as they continued their pursuit of district dominance. Entering the game, Cleveland was second in district with a record of 3-2.
The Mustangs have three games left on their schedule including a road matchup on Friday in Hempstead. They will conclude the regular season against Hearne and Navasota.
