The Mustang basketball team fought hard on Friday night, bringing their record to 14-5 with a big win over Mumford, 60-40.

Sophomore forward Kasey Williamson had a strong game with six rebounds and 14 points. Senior guard R’Kelian Wiley showed his ability to jump and racked up 13 points and six rebounds. Sophomore powerhouse guard Sam Bennett continues to impress, putting nine points on the board in addition to five rebounds and two steals.

Mumford had a strong third quarter, scoring 12 points to the Mustangs’ eight — and Madisonville was plagued by fouls but stayed strong, ending the game with a 60-40 win.

The boys brought their record to 13-5 earlier in the week with a 71-56 loss to Diboll on Jan. 5.

Despite senior guard Jawan Lewis scoring 19 points and Bennett contributing 10 points, four steals and six rebounds, the boys were no match for the Lumberjacks.

The Mustangs played at Normangee on Tuesday and will travel to Palestine on Friday.
