Mustangs win district opener

PALESTINE — The Mustang basketball team won its district opener against Palestine on Friday, bringing their overall record to 16-5.

Madisonville had a big second half and outscored the Wildcats, 55-45. Jawan Lewis racked up 18 points, while Sam Bennett had 16. Sophomore Tommy Holiday led the team in rebounds with eight.

The Mustangs held on to an important game vs. Normangee earlier in the week, beating the Panthers, 74-65 in overtime.

Bennett scored a whopping 22 points, while Deonte McAdams had 15 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Sophomore guard Cornelius Merchant had three points, four rebounds, two steals and three assists. Lewis put up 15 points and seven rebounds.

The Mustangs host Fairfield starting with junior varsity at 5 p.m. on Friday.
