The Mustang varsity soccer team played its first-ever game Saturday and tied Diboll, 4-4.
David Parra scored two goals on penalty shots, and Luis Aceves scored on assists from Diego Guevarra and Bayron Veliz.
“For our first game, everyone was really nervous but when the situation came down the kids stepped up and performed well,” said Head Coach Baltazar Reyes. “I was really impressed at how the team worked as a unit. For our first game as the Madisonville High School boys soccer program, they exceeded my expectations.”
The Mustang JV team beat Diboll, 3-1, with three goals from Christian Martinez and assists from Dixon Veliz and Antonio Penaloza.
Both teams played Navasota on Tuesday and will host the first-ever home game vs. Livingston on Friday, starting with JV at 5 p.m., followed by varsity at 7 p.m.
The Lady Mustang soccer team is set to play its season opener on Friday at 5 p.m. at Bryan’s Rudder High School.
