The Madisonville boys soccer team now has two tied games on the books, with 1-1 scores over Livingston on Friday and Navasota on Jan. 5.
Although Friday’s game was delayed almost an hour due to lightning, and the length of the match was shortened, the boys fought hard in their first home game under the leadership of Head Coach Baltazar Reyes. Christian Quiroz scored the only goal with an assist from Mauricio Aceves.
The JV game was canceled due to bad weather and was tied at 0.
The Mustangs tied Navasota 1-1 on Jan. 5, while the JV dominated the Rattlers with a 5-0 win.
Varsity player Luis Aceves scored a goal with an assist from Josue Hernandez.
The JV standouts included Antonio Penaloza, Jose Nevares, Christian Martinez and Erick Torres, who each made goals. Nevares, Dixon Veliz, Oscar Silva and Darvin Lanza contributed assists.
The boys played at Bryan on Tuesday and will compete in the Brenham tournament this weekend.
The Lady Mustangs were set to play their first-ever game at Bryan’s Rudder High School on Friday, but it was canceled due to lightning.
Head Coach Lauren Lindsey said Rudder was up 2-0 when the game was called.
“Jai Serguiff had a very good game at goalie, allowing two goals and blocking 16,” Lindsey said. “We have room to improve.”
The ladies played Huntsville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
