NORTH ZULCH — The North Zulch community is making a strong investment in its student athletes, as evidenced by a recent effort to refinish the gym floor – the first time it’s been done since it was constructed nine years ago.
Athletic Director Marshall Earnhart said that officials from Wichita Falls-based Allen Hardwood Floors did the work over a two-week period.
“They sanded it down to the bare floor,” Earnhart said. “We have new stripes and a new design.”
The two-tone wood floor was completed just in time for summer league volleyball, which starts this week, and fundamentals camps for softball, baseball, volleyball and basketball, scheduled for June 20-22.
Safety concerns had been raised about the old floor.
“We had to wipe it down constantly,” Earnhart said. “It gets slick. Even when you clean it, it gets slippery.”
The investment was meaningful to the student athletes, Earnhart added.
“It goes to show you how our administration and school board are standing behind our athletes and wanting our kids to have the very best possible,” he said. “The community, school board and everyone is supporting us and holding us to a high standard. They’re investing in these kids’ futures. It’s great that our kids were able to give back to them with a great season. It makes the kids feel like they care about them. When you have someone who cares about you, you want to work harder. Our motto this year — PTF, Protect the Family — runs deep through our community.”
