The North Zulch Bulldogs basketball season came to an end in the Bi-District round of the playoffs last Tuesday when they traveled to Hearne for a neutral site game against the Holland Hornets.
The Bulldogs lost a low-scoring battle to the Hornets with a final score of 40-35. North Zulch started the game slow and faced a 12-point deficit after the first quarter. The Bulldogs would climb back in and make it a game, but they never took the lead.
“The boys battled hard in this one and it was unfortunate luck that we had a starter on the bench with two fouls after a minute and twenty seconds into the first quarter,” said North Zulch head basketball coach David Graves after the loss. “They battled back into the game and we had chances to win, but our shots just did not fall.”
Gerhart Wiese led the team with 12 points while Cole Weaver posted 11 of his own. This basketball game was the last one the seniors will play together.
Coach Graves is going to miss his seniors, saying, “I am very proud of my team as a whole, especially my seniors. What Cole Weaver, Gerhart Wiese, Michael Harris, Tyler Sanchez, Tyler Carroll, and J.P. O’Neal did for the program will always be remembered.”
The group of seniors reached the postseason two out of three years, and according to coach graves, they won more games in three years than anyone at North Zulch has in a long time.
