Tuesday night, it looked like North Zulch was down and out against Iola, but the Bulldogs battled back cutting a 19-point halftime deficit to nine points in the third quarter. Unfortunately for North Zulch, the deficit was too great as the Bulldogs eventually fell 59-35.
“It was a tale of two halves,” North Zulch coach David Graves said. “Give Iola credit, they were very aggressive and got out to a great lead, but I’m proud of our guys for not quitting and fighting back. Moving forward, however, we have to be able to handle pressure better.”
While the loss stings, North Zulch still controls its own destiny, finishing third in the playoff seeding.
“District is over. It is now time to prepare for the playoffs,” said Graves. “We have to play better basketball if we want to go far in the tournament and we’re ready to do just that.”
