NZISD board discusses safety

The North Zulch Independent School District board discussed school security in a closed session at their monthly meeting for February at NZHS Thursday.

“We scored really well on our safety and security audit this year,” said Superintendent Alan Andrus on the audit performed by Region 6. “We basically went through the audits and things we need to keep in mind as far as safety in concerned.”

Some of the details discussed included confidential information, such as evacuation protocols, resulting in the scheduled executive session.

Superintendent Andrus presented a results driven accountability report from the federal level, which highlighted high scores from the district’s special programs, such as career and technology programs, special education and ESL classes.

The board also accepted an anonymous donation intended to upgrade the district’s library. The exact amount of the donation has not yet been released, but was described as a continuous donation intended to build up the library.

“It takes a lot of money to continuously get books in there year after year,” said Andrus.
“Especially with our (accelerated reading program). We just want to expand on it and make it bigger for the kids.”

The board also updated the contracts for Administrators Janie Pope and Lea Ann Andrus.
