NORTH ZULCH — Two superintendents facilitated last week’s North Zulch School Board meeting – and it appeared to go off without a hitch.
Although Doug Devine has been on the job as interim superintendent for about two weeks, outgoing leader Morris Lyon has not yet handed over the gavel.
The board discussed a search for a permanent superintendent during closed session but took no formal action afterward. Devine said prior to the meeting that in his experience — which includes 15 years at the helm of the Iola school district — it takes at least a few months to place a permanent superintendent.
In other matters, the school board:
• Was recognized for School Board Appreciation Month. “It’s sometimes a thankless job,” Lyon said. “We appreciate each and every one of you.”
• Recognized Students of the Month Harleigh Barnes (elementary school), Alex Lima (junior high) and Kristen Massey (high school).
• Recognized Employees of the Month Blair Dozier and Melissa Hodge.
• Heard an update on the track facility from Devine. April 26 has been set for a “substantial completion walk-through.” Board members expressed interest in participating in the tour.
