The Madison County Economic Development Corporation broke ground Friday on an exciting new project that will allow more business opportunities in the community.
Plans have been in the works for months to construct a new terminal at the county’s airport at 2209 Airport Lane off F.M. 1452.
Matt Newton, president of the EDC, has been working closely with Madisonville City Manager Camilla Viator to make the dream a reality. Construction is set to begin this week on the $45,000 project, and it should be complete within a couple of months, Newton said.
“The EDC is building it and donating it to the city,” Newton said. “It’s a big deal.”
Local leaders have planned the project in cooperation with the Texas Department of Transportation and Federal Aviation Administration.
The terminal will offer a spot for pilots to refuel, check the weather or take a brief rest stop.
“The EDC believes – as the city does – that airports drive economic development,” Viator said.
