One person was killed and two people injured in one of two five-car collisions on 1-45 Monday afternoon.
Trooper Jimmy Morgan, public information officer for the Texas Department of Public Safety, said the first accident occurred in the outside southbound lane of 1-45, six miles south of Madisonville, at 1:58 p.m.
Morgan said a 2003 Freightliner carrying bales of cotton, driven by Fikret Salic, 60, of Iowa, collided with a 2009 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by James Grimes of Huntsville.
That collision in turn forced the Chevrolet to collide with a 2010 Freightliner, driven by Donal Rutledge, 63, of Oklahoma, that was hauling a truck, Morgan said. This vehicle then collided with a 2005 Chevrolet pickup driven by Brandi Ford, 39, of Point Blank.
During the collisions, Morgan said a 2015 Dodge pickup, driven by James Kellner of Justice, was damaged as well, but he did not know the circumstances.
Grimes was trapped between the two semi trucks, and was pronounced dead at the scene, Morgan said.
Ford and a passenger, John Ford, 44, of Point Blank, as well as Rutledge, were taken to Huntsville Memorial Hospital for treatment, Morgan said.
Morgan said charges in the case are pending the results of the investigation.
He also said that behind this accident was a second accident involving five vehicles, but did not have any information other than two people were injured.
Of the two injured, both were taken to HMH for treatment, one by helicopter.
