The Mustang powerlifting team placed 23rd in the regional championship last week at Lindale High School, and several individuals were honored in their respective weight classes.
Desmond Walls, Daniel Gannaway, Ellis Reyes and Corbin Rodriguez competed against 12 other regional qualifiers in their weight class.
“Four Mustangs represented our school and community with pride,” said Head Coach Lu Olvera. “It was an evening of white and red lights for our young men as they battled the iron bar and weights.”
Walls finished 10th overall, lifting 685 pounds in the 123-pound weight class. Gannaway finished seventh with 845 pounds in the 132-pound weight class.
“The Mustang powerlifting team had an adventurous season of competing as each young man improved his strength, physically and mentally,” Olvera said. “Although they might have been knocked down a few times, our boys picked themselves up and got right back in line to compete. Thanks to our seniors Ian Morrow and Steve Robinson for their leadership. Thanks to all our kiddos that put in the extra time to compete and a shout out to our teachers, coaches and parents for their support.”
