The Mustang powerlifting team continues to improve as it placed eighth at Waller Invitational last week.
“The [meet] began late due to technology problems but once the bars were loaded, the Mustang powerlifting team tightened up their belts and started moving some iron,” said Head Coach Lu Olvera. “Our boys improved their personal records and some of them missed a few lifts that could have really improved their total weight for regional standings; however, we have two weeks to get after it in the weight room before the next powerlifting meet.”
Bryce Roundtree placed fifth, lifting 480 pounds total in the 114-pound weight class, while Desmond Walls placed third with 690 pounds in the 123 class. Daniel Gannaway placed third with 825 pounds in the 132-pound class.
Ellis Reyes came in fourth in the 148-pound class, lifting a total of 950 pounds. Eliseo Reyes, competing in the same category, came in ninth with 805 pounds.
Eduardo Camarena lifted 840 pounds in the 165-pound class, coming in seventh.
In the 198-pound weight class, Corbin Rodriguez lifted 1,100 pounds for fourth place while Ian Morrow lifted 1,020 pounds to come in sixth.
Rafael Franco placed 15th in the 220-pound class, lifting a total of 890 pounds. Steve Robinson lifted 1,055 pounds in the 242-pound weight class to place seventh. Joey McIver placed eighth by lifting 1,015 pounds in the super heavy weight competition.
The Mustangs compete at the final qualifiers meet in Fairfield on Feb. 25.
