Locals gathered last week in downtown Madisonville to get free flu shots, cholesterol screenings and medical information from more than 40 vendors at the annual HealthFirst HealthFest event at the Truman Kimbro Center.
“It’s about giving back to the community,” said Leslie McAdams of CHI St. Joseph Health Madison Hospital.
Marybeth Murphy, administrator of CHI St. Joseph, added that there are numerous local resources, and the health fair offers a chance to inform the public about them.
“Our doctors want to help people any way they can,” Murphy said. “We want to keep them out of the hospital … All the vendors volunteer their time and put together good door prizes. It’s really impressive to me. They want to help people.”
Helen Ketchum, also representing the hospital, said the annual free event is a community benefit.
“It’s part of our mission,” she said.
