Restaurant focuses on homemade fare

They’ve only been open for about five months, but SunRise Breakfast and Lunch on Texas 21 already has regular customers.

The kitchen, housed in a convenience store, is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. They serve breakfast sandwiches, waffles, pancakes, catfish, shrimp, pork chops, sandwiches, hamburgers and chicken strips — and they deliver to the surrounding area.

“All our food is homemade,” said cook Brad Tinney. “The only advertisement we do is word of mouth.”

Cook Billy Thompson assists in the kitchen and says the homemade patties make the burger a specialty. They’re made with an 80-20 ratio of beef to pork.

The duo has a steady stream of regular customers and pride themselves on their original slogan: “Stay chubby, my friends.”

“We want to stay here for a few months and eventually expand into a restaurant,” Tinney said.
