AUSTIN – Members of the Madisonville track team missed prom on Saturday night after a six-hour rain delay at the state meet in Austin, but the contenders represented the Mustang team well.
Senior R’Kelian Wiley, who was recently named MHS male athlete of the year, placed fourth in the 100-meter dash.
“He almost caught them at the finish line,” said Coach Russell Smith. “This young man overcame a major injury just to compete at the highest level and represented the school well.”
The girls’ 4x100 relay team placed seventh, but broke the school record by 0.3 seconds, clocking in at 48.35. The girls placed ninth in the 4x200 race.
Garlanesha Gilbert placed ninth, and Tra’Dayja Smith, Tyana Brown and Zanavia Manning each placed 11th in individual events.
