Two percent of Madison County voters — 153 to be exact — cast ballots in the Tuesday runoff election.

The majority of the votes were cast early, and mostly by Republicans, according to results provided the Elections Administrator Earl Parker.

Races affecting Madison County include Republican candidates Gary Gates and Wayne Christian and Democratic candidates Cody Garrett and Grady Yarbrough for Railroad Commissioner.

Gates edged out Christian 70-56, while Yarbrough picked up the Democratic nod 16-9.

Yarbrough won the statewide vote 101,401 to 86,683. In the November election, he will face Wayne Christian, who won the runoff 192,599 to 185,887

Mary Lou Keel edged out Ray Wheless 185,287 to 178,272, in the Republican runoff for Judge, Court of Criminal Appeals Place 2. She will face incumbent Larry Meyers in the general election.

Scott Walker outdistanced Brent Webster 207,195 to 150,722 in the Republican runoff for Judge, Court of Criminal Appeals Place 5. He will face Democrat Betsy Johnson in November.
