The Madisonville CISD school board welcomed the agricultural issues team to their board meeting last Tuesday night. The four students led a lively debate concerning the issue of feral hogs in the state of Texas and the proper ways to handle their growing population.
Each member of the team offered a different point of view as well as a personal argument on how they would handle the situation. Some parts of the world with similar problems have given the feral hogs pesticides in order to control them. Some members of the team, however, argued that there isn’t a perfectly safe way to go about this process and that the chemicals can damage people or other animals.
The presentation sparked a lively debate among the board members as well as the people in attendance. Many present had thoughtful questions for the team and they were met with well-thought and educated responses.
In other business, the board:
•Nominated Scot Nevill to the GCAD Board of Directors; and
•approved a tax collection agreement with the Grimes County appraisal district.
