Seniors prepare for the walk

Caps and gowns have been distributed and about 150 Madison County students will become high school graduates this weekend.

Madisonville High School’s graduation ceremony is set for 3 p.m. Saturday at Sam Houston State University, 1806 Avenue J, Huntsville. One hundred forty students are slated to walk the stage.

Rehearsal is scheduled for Wednesday, June 1, at 9 a.m., followed by a visit in caps and gowns to the elementary and intermediate schools for a graduation parade.

MHS valedictorian is Lydia Crow, the daughter of Michael Crow of Midway. Lydia participated in Beta Club, National Honor Society, Prosperity Bank Junior Board, FFA, Student Council, volleyball and softball. She plans to study athletic training at Texas State University.

Clayton Fraley is the MHS salutatorian. The son of Alice and Matt Fraley of Midway, Clayton has been involved in National Honor Society, Beta Club, Prosperity Bank Junior Board, FFA, FCCLA, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, baseball, soccer and cross country. After graduation, he plans to study business honors and finance at Texas A&M University.

North Zulch has 11 students planning to walk the stage at 7 p.m. Saturday in the school gym. World history teacher Joan Osth said it’s one of the smallest senior classes the school has seen in years.

The group will have a rehearsal Friday at 11 a.m. and also will visit the elementary and intermediate students.

North Zulch valedictorian is Hans Osth, the son of Joan and Johan Osth. Hans participated in FFA, 4-H, FCCLA, National Honor Society and Beta Club. He competed in varsity basketball, baseball, cross country, track and tennis. Hans recently was named the school’s male Athlete of the Year and has been accepted to Texas A&M University.

Salutatorian Breanne Matheson, the daughter of Wayne and Alicia Matheson of North Zulch, has participated in FCCLA, Beta Club, National Honor Society, Student Council and golf. After graduation, Breanne plans to attend Blinn College then transfer to University of Texas Medical Branch.

Other North Zulch graduates include Kiera Cosby, Kyela Cosby, Evette Fannin, Ashley Hall, Corei LaFoy, Mackenzie Horn, Samantha Pate, Anthony Reed and Cathleen Woodall.

•Most School Spirit — Breanne Matheson
