NORMANGEE — A suspect in a Thursday shooting at an unidentified Normangee resident has been extradited to Madison County following his arrest on Friday.
Mario Lopez, 22, is being held on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Sgt. Tyler Ogle of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office said the incident began Wednesday evening in the 100 block of Bailey Street in Normangee, which is just across the county line in Madison County.
Ogle said he and deputies Jason Lawrenz and Koray Elkat, as well as members of the Madisonville Police Department, were called to the address because of a call of shots fired.
The report indicates Mario Lopez, 22, was alleged to have shot at a person in the area, and left traveling west on OSR toward Robertson County.
Ogle and MPD officers drove down OSR looking for the suspect’s vehicle, but were unsuccessful.
Investigators were called out, and in the course of the investigation, went to the victim’s residence on Leon County Road 458 and found a vehicle, which had several bullet holes in it.
The group then went back to the scene of the shooting, and found casings from a .40-caliber automatic lying on the ground.
Witness reports alleged that Lopez was the shooter, Ogle said, and authorities issued an arrest warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony.
Lopez was found by deputies of the Robertson County Sheriff’s office on Aug. 4. He was later extradited to Madison County.
