The Texas Soccer Academy is offering training camps for youth from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 1-5 at the soccer fields off North Shipp Street in Madisonville.
Camps are directed by Robert Lopez, and are available to youth ages 5 and up, with a team camp for high school students.
According to its website, “emphasis is placed on repetition. Our technique program is age-friendly. The older the camper, the more advanced the training. We teach technique through a variety of games that challenge the player.”
Campers ages 8 to 15 are invited to participate in “technical target training.”
For field players, that includes:
•The Defender – How to defend, principles of defending play, technically and tactically (Monday and Tuesday)
•The Attacker – Principles of attacking play, technically and tactically (Wednesday and Thursday)
•The Decision-Maker – Putting it all together, teaching the player to go with decisions and learn from them. No robots, only players learning to make soccer decisions.
Goalkeepers are provided four days of intensive training, finishing with scrimmages. Goalkeepers work strictly on techniques and tactics, and will have the opportunity to put their skills to use during evening game play.
Team-based training is offered for a minimum of 10 players ages 8 to 15.
“Sessions will focus on technical and tactical situations of the game,” states the Texas Soccer Academy website. “To train as a team, the team must register at least two weeks before camp … using the promo code supplied by TSA.
