The Mustang soccer team won its championship game on Friday to round out Madisonville’s first-ever season with a 13-7-5 record.
“The first year of Mustang soccer was great,” said Head Coach Baltazar Reyes. “At the beginning of the season, the players were nervous but once we played a few games they started to feel more comfortable.”
The Mustangs beat Crockett, 8-1, in the final game of the Westwood Tournament on Saturday.
Jesús Zamudio, Christian Quiroz, Clayton Fraley, Jose Ibarra, Miguel Rodriguez and Michael Alvarado scored goals. Luis Aceves put points on the board twice during the game.
Diego Guevara, Bayron Veliz, Quiroz, Fraley, Jose Cisneros and Josue Hernandez were credited with assists.
“Throughout the season, the players’ determination and hard work were key factors to their success,” Reyes said. “Next season Mustang soccer will be competing in district along with Navasota, Hempstead, Shepherd, Cleveland and Hearne.”
