Reyes takes first

The Mustang powerlifting team went up against Fairfield last week in its last competition before Division II Regionals.

Ellis Reyes earned first place in his weight class and several others also placed.

“They improved their season totals as their goal is to qualify for the regional powerlifting championship,” said Head Coach Lu Olvera.

The following competitors placed in the meet:

•Bryce Roundtree, fourth place in 114-pound weight class, 490 pounds total

•Desmond Walls, seventh place in 123-pound weight class, 705 pounds total

Daniel Gannaway, third place in 132-pound weight class, 855 pounds total

•Ellis Reyes, first place in 148-pound weight class, 1,045 pounds total

•Ian Morrow, sixth place in 181-pound weight class, 1,085 pounds total

•Corbin Rodriguez, fourth place in 198-pound weight class, 1,165 pounds total

The Regional Powerlifting Championship is set for Thursday at Lindale High School. 

M’ville wins tourney

Sam Bennett continues to lead the Mustang golf team, which won its second tournament Wednesday at the Huntsville Invitational at Raven Nest Golf Course.

Madisonville shot a team score of 346 to win by three strokes over Klein Oak’s 349. Klein High School finished third at 354.

Bryce Bennett, Sam Bennett, Ben Phillips and Trae Bennett competed for the Mustangs. Sam Bennett won individual honors, firing a two under par 68.

Trae Bennett shot 82 and finished fourth.

Conditions were windy and cold on the course. Raven Nest will be the site of the regional tournament April 13-14.
