The Mustangs’ baseball team competed in the Rogers/Cameron Tournament of Champions Thursday and Friday, going 3-0. The Mustangs defeated Navasota 5-2, Bridge City 3-2, and Lufkin Hudson in the final game of the tournament 9-1, before tournament play was canceled Saturday due to rain.

“We performed very well against solid competition,” said head coach Keith Sitton after his team went undefeated in tournament action.

“I thought we got outstanding pitching performances from Zach Poe, Bryce Bennett and Matt Rudis. Offensively, we have to execute our offense more efficiently and benefit more from clutch hitting with runners in scoring position, but overall we’re on the right track,” said Sitton.

Madisonville improved to 9-1 on the season and Texashighschoolbaseball.com named the Mustangs 4A Team of the Week.

The Mustangs return to the mound Friday, on the road in Franklin, against Litter River Academy. Opening pitch is set for 9 a.m.
