Students given honors


Several Madisonville football players were tapped recently to represent the school on the All-District team.

Robert Culbreth was a unanimous selection for first-team linebacker. Ben Phillips was chosen for first-team quarterback. Keion Salas was named first-team offensive line. R’Kelian Wiley was selected as first-team receiver, and Johnny Simpson was named second-team receiver.

Zach Poe was chosen for second-team offensive line, and Cornelius Merchant was named second-team defensive back.

Honorable mentions included Kyle Poe (wide receiver/defensive back), Hector Gonzalez (offensive line), Kendall Moffett (defensive back), Luis Murillo (defensive line), Kasey Williamson (wide receiver) and Jaroid Washington (linebacker).

Academic All-District players included senior linebacker Robert Culbreth, junior defensive back Darren Blakley, junior defensive back Daniel Gannaway, senior offensive lineman Pedro Franco, senior defensive end Sam Parrack, sophomore quarterback Ben Phillips, senior wide receiver Kyle Poe, sophomore offensive lineman Zach Poe, senior offensive lineman Dustin Harkrider, sophomore wide receiver Johnny Simpson and senior defensive end Ian Morrow.

North Zulch

Three Lady Bulldog volleyball players were named to the All-State 1A team, among a total of 30 in the category.

Sally Osth, Robin Diserens and Mackenzie Horn were selected for the prestigious honor.

The 15-13 North Zulch team placed third in the state, heading to the playoffs for the first time under the leadership of Head Coach Greg Horn.
