Sue Ellen was born Jan. 17, 1946, to Robert and Beulah Ragland in Sacramento. She grew up in Stanton with her sister Margaret Ann, Louise, Gene and Wayne. They eventually moved to McCamey, were she met Donald Woodley and married. They started a family and remained there in McCamey, where they raised their children Troy and Tammy. Don and Sue divorced in the late ’70s,but remained great friends and lived together up until his passing July 5, 2015.

Sue Ellen had many diverse careers throughout her lifetime including receptionist/secretary, retail manager, alarm dispatcher, prison guard, chef in a nursing home, professional homemaker, and many others not mentioned. She was active in Beta Sigma Phi where she served as president for years. Raised Catholic, she converted to Baptist after her first marriage.

Sue is preceded in death by both her mother and father; sister Margaret; and her beloved Don. She is survived by her daughter, Tammy Simmons and husband, Curtis; son Troy Woodley and his husband, Lance Meyer, of Albuquerque; and three grandchildren, Brandon Johnson, Crystal Valderaz and Toby Ficker. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren Breven, Harlow and Ellie Valderaz, who will greatly miss their GiGi.

Sue had a kind and generous heart and was a devoted friend to many. There were so many that called her Mama Sue or Grandma Sue because of her nurturing spirit. There was always room for one more at her table and she never turned anyone away. She loved to cook and even more to share, especially her tacos or baked goods. She will be sorely missed by so many.

Madisonville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
